All right, this post has been long overdue. It's reckless cake balls! Now, being too lazy to look up a cake balls recipe, I thought I'd just make a cake and ball it up.
So we have pretty standard cake batter here... oh, did I mention I used a recipe for a cornbread cake, because it baked the fastest? No? Well, I did.
So I'm going to add sprinkles to make it sweeter.
And even I'm not crazy enough to put corn here like the recipe says. Not because of the flavor but because the kernels will probably fall out when I ball it up.
Could use more sprinkles.
Now here's the pan the cake is going in. I'm using melted butter to stop it from sticking.
Now I pour in the batter...
Okay, what are the odds this is gonna turn into a pool of hot liquid when baked?
I'm going to hope for the best though, and make a chocolate icing to roll the cake balls in.
With more sprinkles.
My cake is looking actually a little solid now. But I'm guessing it will be full of hot buttery oil when you bite into it.
Now, I learned from my disastrous birthday cake in my first episode this year that water is bad on icing. At least when you mix it in equal portions to the sugar. Anyway, not using any water this time.
I decided to just heat it. It looks pretty solid and icing-like now. But maybe it could use more chocolate.
... WHAAAAT?
My cake... is actually... looking like a cake??? And not hot oil??? Wow.
Okay, my icing and cake look done. Let's start balling up the cake.
Hmm, the sides got stuck into these tough strips.
My balling station.
I'm going to put the balls in aluminum foil to chill.
Now I can begin balling them up. I have to move fast before the icing and cake turn hard.
OWWW!
THE CHOCOLATE IS HOT AND BURNS MY HANDS!!!!
But I have to keep going or this will be a waste.
OK, my hands HURT. I'm going to freeze this now...
A while later...
These things were pretty good. Despite looking ugly. Next time though, I'll probably just save myself the effort and ice a cake. Prettier and less painful.
