Steamed ground veggie salad with steak

I was originally going to make a "bad breath veggie salad," but I couldn't think of anything besides garlic and onions to put into it. So instead, I assembled this fine collection of ingredients...
...which all grow out of the ground. I'm going to call this my "ground veggie salad." As is usual, the first thing to do is to chop it up.

That's a lot of garlic and onions, from the original "bad breath" plan.
Since I've done stir fry a bunch of times before, I want to try something new and steam these.
I love how the steamer basket unfurls by the way. It's so cool looking.
I wonder if my veggies-to-steam-area ratio is a little bit high.
Oh well, since this is all stuff I can eat raw there's no danger. Let's get to steaming.
I feel like making a steak to go along with the salad. I've learned melted butter works much better than oil for stopping your meat from sticking.
This is going to be a pretty typical pan-fried steak while I wait for the veggies to steam.

I was afraid I was going to run out of water to turn into steam and end up burning something, so I poured in a whole lot more water. That submerged the veggies a little.

Adding in a bit of salt and pepper for seasoning.

Yuck! Where did all that blood-stuff come from?
The extra water turned out to be a mistake... now it's nearly boiling over.
But my steak is nearly done so that gives me an idea.
I was thinking of adding rice to this dish but that would take awhile, so I chose pasta instead. I poured some of the boiling water from the veggies into the pasta. (I also touched the metal steamer thing without thinking. Ouch.)
After a few more minutes I decide everything's done. I had no idea how long to steam the veggies so it was just until I ran out of other things to do.
Pasta became infinitely easier to make once I got a strainer.
Since I had pasta I wanted to add spaghetti sauce, but I was getting impatient and decided to microwave to heat the sauce. The sauce didn't like the microwave and exploded slightly.
I also added cheese.
Yummy! The steak could have been a little softer, but otherwise I like steaming. The veggies turned out great.
